For an immigrant experiencing abuse or neglect, there can be many barriers to seeking help, This includes cultural stigma, language barrier, exclusion from the mainstream society, fear of deportation, mistrust of authorities in native country, or fear of retaliation. For some people, they may tolerate the abuse or neglect in order to keep the family together.
