Safety

It is important to remember all of the safety strategies from the Provincial Workplace Violence Prevention Curriculum.

Your safety, and the safety of the abused adult is of paramount concern.

Experience from the Domestic Violence field of practice has taught us that victims of violence may be most at risk when the “system” starts getting involved.

Your investigation may trigger further abuse or escalate the risk. The perpetrator may feel the most threatened and may make moves to obtain more control (ex. clear out the bank account, increase their power and control over the victim, threaten to have them “committed” or “placed” in an institution)

It is recommended when you interview the suspected abuser/person of concern that you have another professional with you.
